Indication & Dosage :
Defera (Deferiprone), generic FERRIPROX is a prescription medicine used to treat certain blood disorders, such as thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, who accumulate excess iron due to repeated blood transfusions. While transfusions are beneficial for managing these conditions, they introduce additional iron into the body, which must be removed to prevent complications like heart failure, liver disease, diabetes, and growth delays in children. Deferiprone is typically used when other iron-removal treatments are ineffective or poorly tolerated, helping to reduce high iron levels. Deferiprone binds to excess iron, facilitating its excretion through urine. Defera manufactured by Jenphar Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.
Deferiprone has to take orally 3 times daily with or without food as directed by patient’s doctor.
